FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: synthesis is carried out from 17a-hydroxy-17b-cyano-3-oxoandrost-4-ene by treatment with a mixture of concentrated HCl and CHCOOH taken at the volume ratio = (0.5-1.2):1, at boiling of reaction mixture following by isolation of the end product in the form of sodium salt. Yield of the end product is increased up to 66-70%, number of stages were diminished from 5 to 2. EFFECT: simplified process, increased yield of the end product.
