Abstract

A cutting method includes: forming a reformed region in a workpiece (1); and after forming the reformed region in the workpiece (1), cutting the workpiece (1) along an intended cut line. In the cutting the workpiece (1), a dry etching process is 5 performed from a front surface (3) toward a rear surface (4) of the workpiece (1) while the workpiece (1) is fixed on a support member at least under its own weight or by suction, to form a groove from the front surface (3) to reach the rear surface (4) of the workpiece (1).
