Abstract

The lower cylindrical collection compartment (11) has an upper sliding telescopic portion (13) supported by a buoyant ring (15) which also forms the overflow weir crest (K). The lower part of the compartment (11) is supported by inverted closed cylinder floats (26) containing a buoyant material (27). An oil entry over the weir (K) is created by a tethered buoyant ring (25,23) and conical skirt (23). Water is discharged from the bottom of the collection compartment (A) by a pump (18). An annular plate (19) and cover (21) close the crest inlet when the collection chamber sinks to its maximum depth.
