Abstract
The compacting plate is vibrated by two eccentrically loaded shafts (14,15). The first shaft (14) is driven by a gear train from the motor and the second shaft is driven by an interlinking drive. Adjustment of the vibration movement is achieved by altering the phase of the second shaft (15) relative to the first. The spur gear (31) on the first shaft (14) driving the second has a dia. twice that of the gear (30) on the second shaft. It is driven at half the speed of the two shafts by a bevel gear differential. The shaft (20) coaxial with the first shaft (14) is normally kept stationary but may be rotated by a rack-and-pinion drive(34,21) to alter the phase.
