Abstract

In a known preheating device water is heated in a heating appliance and the heated water transmits the heat absorbed to the internal combustion engine by way of heat exchangers. The said preheating device for the internal combustion engine is expensive and requires constant monitoring owing to the heat transfer medium, which is at risk of freezing. The preheating device according to the invention uses air as the heat transfer medium and divides the overall flow into at least two partial flows (8, 8a, 10, 10a), which are fed to the internal combustion engine (2) and a cab (4) of the vehicle (1). In addition the exhaust gas flow (18) of a burner (5), serving as heating device, may also be used for heating the oil sump (14) of the internal combustion engine (2). <IMAGE>
