Abstract
Titanium distance pieces are used for the implant, and each piece is exposed to anodic oxidation in an electrolyte (15) contained in a glass vessel (16). The electrolyte can contain e.g. approximately 15 per cent orthophosphoric acid. The electrode used is a titanium plate (17). The positive pole of a DC source (18) is connected to the implant part (19), whilst the negative pole is coupled to the plate (17). The distance piece is cleaned in advance with ultra-sound in a solvent, e.g. trichlorethylene, after which it is rinsed in water. The voltage and current strength are accurately controlled by regulating components in the current source (18) during electrolysis until the required colour shade is obtained. To achieve this colour shade, the voltage is increased-in stages, each of 5-10 volts. The current strength is monitored during the process, and when it drops below approximately 2 mA, increase to the next voltage stage can take place.
