Abstract
In order to separate off zinc from a hot gas containing zinc vapour, a lead flow is circulated in countercurrent to the gas in a condenser 1. Heat from the lead flow from the condenser is transferred to a chamber 16 from which lead is transferred to the condenser. The lead flow from the condenser 1 is cooled, in a manner known per se, to a temperature at which its zinc saturation solubility is lower than its zinc content, as a result of which zinc is precipitated and the precipitated zinc is separated off. The zinc-impoverished, cooled lead flow is transferred to the chamber for heating with the heat which has been transferred thereto, as a result of which the lead flow, which has been heated in this way and which has been fed to the condenser 1, obtains a zinc content which is less than its zinc saturation solubility. An apparatus for implementing the invention comprises a lead circulation arrangement containing a condenser 1, a cooling channel 7 and devices 8, 9, 11 for separating off zinc from the lead, and is characterized in that the lead circulation arrangement upstream of the condenser 1 has a lead chamber with elements being arranged to transfer heat from the lead flow which leaves the condenser to the zinc- impoverished lead which flows through the chamber. <IMAGE>
