Abstract

In a heating boiler with a combustion chamber 1 in flue gas flow contact with convection elements 2 for the transfer of heat from the flue gas to a heat absorbing medium, such as a liquid, through a heat conducting wall over which the flue gas flows, for improvement of the heat transfer, there is provided at least one turbulence creating means 3, on the flue gas side of said wall, with its height extending in the direction away from the wall, substantially within the boundary layer of the flue gas flow. Discrete elements 3 of rectangular cross-section arranged in a zig-zag fashion are shown but, where the convection element is tubular, an element extending along an internal helix of the tube is provided. Alternatively a tubular convection element may have two sets of discrete turbulence creating means extending at right angles to each other and inclined to the flow of flue gases. <IMAGE>
