Abstract

454,655. Heating water; heating air; boiler furnaces. NOBLE, P. W., 1111, Cedar Street, Michigan City, Indiana, U.S.A., and NOBLE, H., 73, The Close, Norwich. Feb. 1, 1935, No. 3292. [Class 64 (i)] [See also Groups XII and XXVI] A portable domestic boiler contains a small flash steam generator D which supplies steam to a turbine J driving a pump feeding water to the boiler from the turbine condenser N mounted in the boiler water space B. The furnace gases flow upwards through a flat flue containing the steam generator and then around a draught inducing nozzle F to a corrugated coiled down-flow flue D<2>, which passes through the bottom of the water space and discharges into a stack pipe D<5>. The turbine drives, in addition to the feed pump, air fans K, L and an electric generator M. The fan L draws air through a casing G and delivers it through an adjustable cowl L<1>. The fan K forces air through the draught-inducing nozzle F. The air inlet to the fan K is regulated by a disc which is moved towards or away from the inlet under the control of a thermostat in the boiler water. The extension of a sliding sleeve in the inlet may be adjusted by hand. Steam and water flow from the immersed condenser N to an air cooled condenser N<2> at the lower part of the air casing G. The feed pump, which delivers water from a hot well S\ is driven from the turbine through worm gearing J<1> and a reciprocating shaft J<5> having an adjustable resilient connection with the pump shaft R, which is also connected to the piston of a pump for increasing the circulating in the water space. The oscillating shaft R is also connected through an arm A3 and a ratchet to the rotated conical grate A<1>. The slipper-shaped ash pan U may be slid out by a handle and carried vertically.
