Abstract

The fibrous material (20) is transported in fluid by a choke type rotary sluice (3) with fluid-filled through pockets (27,28). The sluice has an upper inlet chamber (2) with a transport fluid level (24) maintained by fluid circulating through the pockets, and simultaneously transporting the fed-in fibrous material. The material comes up against a sieve (35) at the bottom of the pockets and fills the pocket volume, so that part of the pocket fluid content is displaced corresp. to the volume of the fibre material. The displaced fluid volume is calculated and used to determine and regulate the volume of material which per time unit is transported to the treatment stage. In the calculation of the fluid volume, adjustment is made for possible additional or reduced fluid amounts, likewise for possible fluid leakage in the sluice, absorption of fluid by the material, and for condensed vapour.
