Abstract

The invention relates to a roof rack which can be mounted on vehicles having a conventional roof rail or on vehicles not having a conventional roof rail and which has holding elements for fastening to conventionally available roof rails, which holding elements comprise pairs of plates which are shaped in such a way that they lock into recesses or the like which are available near the sides of the vehicle roof, the said plates being tensible by means of a tensible tie rod between them. The plates are provided with an upwardly curving supporting part, which acts as a roof rail. The tie rod can also be connected to the supporting struts of the roof rack.
