Abstract

In smelting at least partially reduced iron ore in a fusion gasifier, a fluidised bed is built up in which coal is reacted together with oxygen-containing gas, whereby the smelting heat is generated and a reduction gas is formed. The reduction gases are discharged from the gasifier and the solids consisting substantially of carbon are precipitated. The precipitated solids are subsequently agglomerated and returned again as formed coke to the fusion gasifier.
