Abstract

In smelting at least partially reduced iron ore in a fusion gasifier, a fluidised bed is built up in which the coal is reacted together with oxygen-containing gas, whereby the smelting heat is generated and a reduction gas is formed. As a coal substitute, water-containing lignite is used which can not be charged directly. Rather, this water-containing lignite is subjected to steam-drying before introduction, coked immediately afterwards in an open-hearth furnace and again afterwards introduced as coked coal with its sensible heat into the fusion gasifier.
