Abstract

The subject is a process and equipment for purifying a gas, in particular air, containing pollutants in the vapour form. For this purpose, the gas to be purified is passed through a purification vessel (1) in which a cooler (5) and an adsorption filter (2) are arranged behind or above the latter. The gas inlet (13) is located in front of or below the cooler (5). The gas outlet (14) is located behind or above the adsorption filter (2). A condensate outlet (18) is provided in the bottom of the vessel (1). For the purpose of cleaning the filter, the gas feed is stopped and the pollutants precipitated in the filter (2) are reconverted into their vapour form and subjected again to cooling. The resulting condensate is discharged together with or separately from the pollutants previously precipitated in the gas purification. To extend the life of the filter (2), the conversion of the pollutants, precipitated in the filter (2) into their vapour form is carried out under a reduced pressure (vacuum). The reduced pressure is generated by connecting a vacuum source (vacuum pump 7) to the vessel (1). Preferably, the vacuum source (vacuum pump 7) is connected to the gas inlet (13), so that the pollutant vapour is passed again through the cooler (5) located in the vessel (1). As a result of the reduced pressure, the boiling points of the pollutant precipitated in the adsorption filter (2) are considerably lowered, so that no temperature increases, which adversely affect the life of the filter (2), are necessary for vaporising the pollutants. <IMAGE>
