1537033 Fume extraction system D A G MARSHALL 2 Feb 1976 [31 Jan 1975] 4270/75 Heading B1W A fume extraction system e.g. for welding operations comprises, connected in series, an air filter 10 for removing solid impurities, a blower 12 for forcing the air to be purified through the system, an acid gas scrubber 16 comprising a bath 18 containing cleansing liquid, preferably sodium carbonate solution to remove acid gases from the air and filters 102, 104, 106 and 108 containing activated carbon to remove O 3 from the air. The filter 10 has an inner filter element 30 made of resin-impregnated woven glass fibre and an outer concentric element 32 made of pleated paper. The filters 102, 104 are carbon derived from coal and filters 106, 108 are carbon derived from burnt coconut shells. A pleated paper filter 114 is also provided downstream of the activated carbon filters.
