Abstract
A vortex cleaner for the particular division of paper pulp suspensions into fractions comprising of a continuous two-section circular vortex chamber (1), which over part of its length tapers towards one of its ends. At the further end of the vortex cleaner there is a tangentially directed inlet (2, 6) for the suspension that is to be treated and an axially directed outlet (8) for a lighter fraction. At the more tapered opposite end of the vortex cleaner there is another axially directed outlet for a heavier fraction. The above mentioned first outlet for the lighter fraction is constructed as a coaxially overlapping pipe (8) in the vortex chamber. Through this pipe (8) the light fraction flows out from the vortex chamber as a spiral-shaped eddy current. At the outer end of the pipe (8) there is a device (11) arranged to deflect the spiral-shaped eddy current through the pipe in a radial direction out to a ring-shaped column (9), arranged coaxially relative to the pipe (8) and mainly radially directed, which is fitted in the inner wall of a ring-shaped chamber, arranged coaxially relative to the pipe (8), which is fitted with an outlet that is mainly tangential to the outer wall of the chamber. In this way, a significant part of the kinetic energy of the flow of the fraction travelling through the above mentioned pipe (8) is converted into a pressure in the above mentioned ring-shaped chamber (10), so that the pressure in the pipe (8) becomes lower than that of the ring-shaped chamber (10). Therefore, the input pressure at the inlet (2) to the vortex chamber can be lowered correspondingly, which results in a lower energy consumption for the pump used to input the suspension to the vortex chamber.<IMAGE>
