Abstract

Alkylation of //c,//c dialkylaldehydes with organic dihalides in two or three phase systems in the presence of alkali and a phase transfer catalyst. Depending on the reaction conditions and the structure of the dihalides, difunctional aldehydes with formula I or II or their mixture are obtained. (FORMULA) Where Z is an alkylyl, alkenylyl, aryldialkyl or cykloalkylyl structure and R<u1>u and R<u2>u are alkyl groups with 1-6 carbon atoms, and X is an halide atom. These compounds are suitable starting materials for the synthesis of monomers. The aldehyde group can be converted to an alcohol, acid, amine or isocyanate function. The halogen atom can be converted to an hydroxy-or aminogroup.
