Abstract

A surgical dressing comprises an absorbent pad disposed between a top sheet which is pervious to liquids and a porous fibrous backing sheet which has been treated with a fluorocarbon textile finish water repellent agent to eliminate strike-through of the dressing by body fluids and to retard passage of bacteria through the dressing while at the same time providing breathability of the dressing to promote healing of the wound.
