Abstract

1444893 Vibratory finishing C K WALTHER KG 14 Feb 1975 [24 May 1974 (2)] 6400/75 Heading B3D A vibratory abrading device comprises an annular tank 1 and a straight separating section at a level above and leading off the tank, and a flap 11 which is pivoted at one end in the separating section and arranged to be swung down to a position in which the free end of the flap extends into, and co-operates with the floor of, the tank to direct the mixture of workpieces and abrading medium up over the flap into the separating section, the upper surface of the flap being formed of two sections 17, 18 which meet at an angle. The tank is supported by springs on a housing containing a drive for weights for vibrating the tank and is in the form of a circular trough having a planar bottom 2 which merges through an inclined section 3 with a vertical inner wall 4 and through a curved section with a vertical outer wall 5. The inner surface of the tank has a rubber or like lining 7 formed with a helical wedge shaped bead 8 which tapers to nothing at its ends. The lining is also formed integrally with a dam 13 having inclined front and rear surfaces 13<SP>1</SP> 13<SP>11</SP>. The dam is disposed at the junction of the circular section and the straight separating section which has a separating screen 12. The flap 11 is mounted on a transverse pin 14 adjacent the screen, a wiper 16 being disposed between the flap and the screen. The flap has two surfaces 17, 18, surface 17 having a steeper inclination, when the flap is in its operative position, than surface 18 or surface 13<SP>1</SP> of the dam. The flap is movable, by hand or automatically, between its operative position and an upper inoperative position. In the operative position, workpieces and treating material pass over the dam and flap into the separating section where the treating material falls through the screen into the tank and the workpieces are discharged from the separating section. A cover 25 is removable to uncover an opening in front of the dam when the tank is to be emptied. In another embodiment the dam is omitted and the flap engages the bottom of the tank.
