Abstract
892,165. Weighing apparatus. PREMIER PORTLAND CEMENT CO. (RHODESIA Ltd. April 22, 1960 [Feb. 20, 1960; March 15 1960], No. 14150/60. Class 143. A storage container for cement is mounted on a wheeled framework also provided with levelling jacks 6 and skids 3, material from the container being automatically fed by weight and discharged into a separate receptacle. The container 1 is integral with a hopper 8 closed by a spring-urged slide 9 and the framework supports a weighbeam 14 carrying counterweights 13 and a weighing receptacle 12 pivotable for discharge by rotation of wheel 17. The slide 9 when opened manually against the action of spring 11 is (see Fig. 2) held open by the engagement of a pawl 23 with a catch 22 on the slide. When the weighbeam tilts, rod 16 descends thereby rotating rod 24 against the resistance of spring 25 to release the catch 22 to allow the slide to close. A flexible dust hood (not shown) may be provided below the hopper, and the level of material in the hopper may be metered by an indicator carried outside the storage container connected by a line passing over a pulley to a weight resting on the top of the cement. The weighbeam may extend beyond the point of attachment thereto of the receptacle 12 during weighing, the receptacle in this case being mounted on runners movable along the extension to a discharge position. Fig. 3 (not shown) depicts the loading of the entire apparatus on to a lorry, the studs 18 (Fig. 1) being located near the centre of mass of the apparatus and serving as a fulcrum for tilting the apparatus on to the lorry on whose floor it can then be moved on rollers 19. The material in the hopper may be agitated by a manually operated paddle (Fig. 4, not shown) or an air jet.
