Abstract
858,046. Carrying bulk cargo. COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA. Sept. 1, 1959, No. 29772/59. Class 113. A bulk cargo carrier comprises at least one main hold b, an open-bottom trimming hold 26 which extends across the main hold, and a shedder mound 27 which stands on the floor 17 of said main hold, the top portion 28 intruding into the trimming hold. Each trimming hold has a hatch through which the cargo is loaded as indicated by the arrows 30 in Fig. 7, the material flowing freely (arrows 31) into the main hold until the surfaces (32 in Fig. 8) assume the angle of repose for the material. The trimming hold may then be filled, Fig. 10, and the remainder of the cargo poured into the main hold (arrows 33 in Fig. 11). When the cargo is to be unloaded it is removed from the main holds as indicated by arrows 34 in Fig. 12. When main holds are nearly empty, cargo in the trimming holds runs into main holds, as indicated by arrows 35 in Fig. 12, for removal therefrom.
