Abstract

A feed dispenser 9 is arranged at the lower end of a volume feed metering unit 2 in a livestock rearing battery. The dispenser has a motor-driven feed dispensing conveyor in the form of two screws 18, 19 of opposite pitch. The screws convey feed from a receiving opening which is formed in a tube enclosing the screws, and which communicates with the interior of the volume metering unit, to outlet openings 15, 16 at the ends of the tube. The screws are mounted on a common shaft so that when the shaft is rotated, feed is dispensed by the screws at substantially equal rates. The screws can preferably be moved axially out of the tube to allow one screw to be inoperative while the other screw conveys feed. <IMAGE>
