Abstract
The binder comprises a solution of a mixture of sodium silicate and/or potassium silicate with lithium silicate. The sodium oxide and/or potassium oxide : lithium oxide : silicon oxide weight ratio is in the range from 0.80 to 0.99 : 0.01 to 0.20 : 2.50 to 4.5. The overall solids content of the solution is between 10 and 50% by weight. The viscosity of the solution is between 10 and 100,000 cP. The binder can be used for paints, adhesive formulations, adhesive cement formulations, concrete impregnations and foundry cores. However, it is preferably used in the production of welding electrodes. Due to its relatively low lithium oxide content, the binder has high binding strength. For this reason, it is also particularly economical.
