Abstract
1474779 Gas turbine plant BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 23 Oct 1974 [25 Oct 1973] 45950/74 Heading F1G A gas turbine plant includes a heat exchanger 1 disposed upstream of the turbine to heat the working fluid, an interstage working fluid heater 5, and a by-pass line 12 enabling the working fluid to flow, particularly at starting, directly from heat exchanger 1 to heater 5 without passing through the first turbine stage 2. When by-passing is required, valves 3, 4 are respectively closed and opened. The plant may be of air storage type in which a motor/generator 8 can be selectively connected via respective couplings 9, 10 to the turbine or to a compressor for charging a storage container. The latter supplies compressed air to the turbine via line 14 in the power generating mode. In the arrangement shown, heater 5 is a combustion chamber, but in a modified non-storage closed circuit plant heater 5 may be a heat exchanger. In a non-storage open circuit plant, working fluid leaving the compressor flows directly to heat exchanger 1 and thence to the turbine. Heat exchanger 1 may be heated not by exhaust gas leaving the turbine but by working fluid from heater 5.
