Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the Formulae I and II, wherein R* represents an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical and each of X and X1 is a hydrogen or halogen atom, or a C1- 6 alkyl, trifluoromethyl, hydroxy, C1- 4 alkoxy, C1- 4 alkylmercapto, C1- 4 alkylsulphonyl or C2- 8 dialkylsulphamoyl radical; processes for preparing compounds of the Formula I by reacting compounds of the Formula III with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst or by hydrolysing compounds of the Formula IV to produce 5-methylaminopropyl-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzocycloheptenes of the Formula V and acylating the latter with acylating agents derived from alkanoic; aralkanoic or aroic acids; and a process for preparing compounds of the Formula II by dehydrogenating compounds of the Formula I and where, when in the above process, a halogen-containing dehydrogenating agent is used, the product consists of a mixture of compounds of the Formula II with compounds of the Formula IX where Y represents a halogen atom, said mixture is treated with a tertiary amine, and the process in which a compound of the Formula II is hydrolysed to give a 5-methylaminopropyl - 5H - dibenzo[a,d] cycloheptene of the Formula VI. <FORM:1055469/C2/1> <FORM:1055469/C2/2> <FORM:1055469/C2/3> <FORM:1055469/C2/4> <FORM:1055469/C2/5> <FORM:1055469/C2/6> <FORM:1055469/C2/7> <FORM:1055469/C2/8> <FORM:1055469/C2/9> Urethanes of the Formula IV may be prepared by hydrogenating a compound of the Formula VII, wherein R** represents an alkyl or aryl radical, in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, or by hydrogenating a compound of the Formula VIII to give the corresponding 5 - (dimethylaminopropyl) - 10,11 - dihydro - 5H - dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptane and reacting the latter with a haloformate of the formula X0COR0, wherein X0 represents a halogen atom and R0 represents an aralkoxy radical.
