Abstract

1,118,632. Collapsible containers. AMERICAN CAN CO. 12 July, 1965 [13 July, 1964], No. 29394/65. Heading B8D. A collapsible container has a deformable laminated body 10 comprising a fluid-impervious metallic foil lamina 16 enclosed within layers 15, 17 of a thermoplastic material, one of which layers is bonded to a thermoplastic headpiece 12 which itself is bonded to an insert 22, which is preferably laminated and which includes a layer 16A of impervious metallic foil. The foil 16A may be enclosed within thermoplastic layers 15A, 17A, the object of the latter layer being to protect the foil from corrosion by the contents of the container. The insert 22 may seal the orifice 26 of the headpiece as shown, or may be shaped so as to leave the orifice open (Figs. 3, 4, 6, not shown). In a further embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown), the laminated insert is formed integrally with the laminated body of the container.
