Abstract

1,177,235. Diaphragm pumps. AKERLUND & RAUSING AB. June 1, 1967 [June 8, 1966], No.25275/67. Heading F1A. A diaphragm pump for viscous liquids, e.g. printing ink, lacquer or glue, comprises a diaphragm 18, e.g. of fabric-reinforced neoprene rubber laminations, moved on its suction stroke by a spring 24 and on its delivery stoke by compressed air controlled by a valve 29. Compressed air from inlet 26 moves diaphragm 18 to the left, a spring-loaded follower member 35 following the diaphragm until an abutment 38 on member 35 moves a fibre disc 33 out of sealing engagement with bore 32 of valve 29 to equalize the pressure on either side of the valve, so that spring 31 can move the valve to the left to exhaust the compressed air through part 28. A bulge 40 in a ring 39 maintains disc 33 in a tilted position. Spring 24 returns diaphragm 18 and the valve 29 to the position shown. In Fig. 2 (not shown), valve spring 31 is omitted and valve 29 has differential surfaces acting to bias the value to the left when passage 32 is opened. The pump has inlet and outlet ball valves 13, 14 and a threaded pin 41 for mounting it on the lid of a liquid container.
