In apparatus of the kind disclosed in Specification 976, 682 for detecting wrinkles in a moving sheet of material and where one or more elongated light gates rest upon the moving sheet any wrinkle lifting a gate off the sheet to permit light to pass between the gate and the sheet to reach a photocell, the light gate consists of a roller 18 resting on the moving paper 1 and mounted upon a bracket 3 which pivots by a central nut 4 upon a fixed support 5. Two retaining screws 8 pass freely through holes in the bracket 3, one on either side of the nut 4, so that the roller can align itself with the moving sheet and make contact with the sheet along its whole length. A foamed plastic block 13 running the length of the gate and pressed upon by an adjustable foot or series of feet 21 dampens the up and down motion of the gate.
