Abstract

1,160,700. Stop motion; warning signals. JAMES L. HIGHSMITH & CO. 7 Dec., 1966 [11 Jan., 1966], No. 54830/66. Headings D1D and D1F In a stop motion for a roving frame the beam from a light source 20, 20' received by a photo-cell 21, 21' passes longitudinally of a row of flyers 17, 17' and is spaced forwardly of, above and outside the upper extremities of the flyers so that a broken or other roving end passes through the beam and causes a rapid change in the light intensity at the photo-cell which in turn is arranged to generate a signal which stops the roving frame. As shown a further photo-electric arrangement 30, 31 is arranged beneath the slivers running from guide bar 15 to the drawing mechanisms to detect sliver breaks or ends in this region and causes the frame to be stopped. The amplifiers associated with cells 21, 21<SP>1</SP> are designed to respond to rapid changes of light intensity only whereas the amplifier associated with cell 31 may respond to less rapid changes in light intensity. A visual or audible signal is provided, preferably such that a signal from 21 or 21<SP>1</SP> causes a light to glow continuosuly whereas a signal from 31 causes the light to flash.
