Abstract

1,008,669. Photocopying apparatus. GRETAG A.G. March 12, 1964 [March 12, 1963], No. 10561/64. Heading G2A. A photocopying apparatus has a step-by-step feed system for the copying paper in which the length of paper advance can be adjusted to conform with the picture size; a marking device marks the paper at the edge of the picture area, and a sensing device terminates the paper advance by sensing this mark. In the form shown, the copying paper passes from a supply drum 1 over rollers 2, 3, past a picture aperture 11 defined by a mask 12,13, 14, and over roller 4 to a take-up drum 5. The parts 13,14 of the mask are adjustable in the direction of arrows h, i, and j, k, to vary the size of the picture aperture. A marking device 20 is provided which comprises a printing stamp 23 and inked ribbon 24, and which is operated by a solenoid 21 to stamp a mark M on the copy paper just behind the rearward edge of the picture area. The mark is made just as the motor drive for the paper advance is started. At the other side of the mask is a sensing device 30 comprising a light source 31 and a photodiode 32. These are so disposed that when the mark M reaches the other side of the mask aperture, it arrives at such a position that it reflects light from source 31 to the photodiode 32. An electrical impulse is thus generated which interrupts the paper feed. It is preferred that the printing ink forming the mark M is infra-red absorbent, so that the current impulse generated by the diode is due to a reduction of light incidence. The righthand side of the Fig. shows the electrical circuit by means of which the operations are controlled; the starting key 51 can be manually or automatically released. The adjustable mask part 13 is coupled to the marking device 20 so that the two can be moved together. The mask part 14 is similarly linked to the sensing device 30. Thus if, for example, the two parts 13, 14 are pushed closer together to reduce the format, the stamping and sensing devices are moved closer together to the same extent.
