Matter to be copied by a copying machine, e.g. a xerographic machine Fig. 1 (not shown) is carried on an indexible drum 124, Fig. 2, mounted in a frame 114 above platen (60, Fig. 1 not shown). The required information is positioned in turn above a slit 122. The information may be carried on an insert (126, Fig. 5 not shown) clamped to the drum 124 as shown in Fig. 4. Alternatively, interchangeable drums may carry the information directly. The drum is rotated by a ratchet drive mechanism 202, Fig. 2, having a reset mechanism.
