In an X-ray film pack with a covering whose edges are closed in an air-tight manner intensifier foils are caused to bear against the X-ray film under pressure from a layer of elastically compressible material arranged between the covering and each intensifier foil. In assembly of the pack, the film, foils and layers, which may be of foam rubber or foam plastic, are placed in a sheath of rubber, soft plastics material or metal, and the sheath is compressed, and, while the pressure is maintained, sealed at its edges, by, for example, adhesives or welding. On relief of the applied pressure, a partial vacuum is formed within the sheath, and external air pressure causes the bearing of the elastic material on to the foil(s).
