Abstract
An aqueous coating composition solidifying by loss of moisture by evaporation contains, by weight of the total solids present, 55 to 68% powdered silica, 25 to 42% potassium silicate, 1 to 4% talc, and 1 to 7% nepheline syenite. The composition may be applied by brushing, spraying or dipping to steel. It may subsequently be heated to 1800 DEG F. to fuse it and dissolve oxides on the metal surface. It may also be applied to paper to maintain the shape thereof after drying or to a combustible former which is burnt out after the coating has hardened.ALSO:An aqueous coating composition solidifying by loss of moisture by evaporation contains, by weight of the total solids present, 55 to 68% powdered silica, 25 to 42% potassium silicate, 1 to 4% talc. and 1 to 7% nepheline syenite. The composition may be applied by brushing, spraying or dipping to steel. It may subsequently be heated to 1800 DEG F. to fuse it and dissolve oxides on the metal surface. The coating then becomes glossy. It may also be applied to paper to maintain the shape thereof after drying or to a combustible former which is burnt out after the coating has hardened.ALSO:An aqueous coating composition solidifying by loss of moisture by evaporation contains, by weight of the total solids present, 55-68% powdered silica, 25-42% potassium silicate, 1-4% talc, and 1-7% nepheline syenite. The composition may be applied by brushing, spraying or dipping, to steel. It may subsequently be heated to 1800 DEG F. to fuse it and dissolve oxides on the metal surface. It may also be applied to paper to maintain the shape thereof after drying or to a combustible former which is burnt out after the coating has hardened.
