Abstract
983,890. Furnace grates. VON ROLL A.G. Sept. 11, 1962 [Sept. 11, 1961; Jan. 23, 1962], No. 34757/62. Heading F4B. In an inclined grate for an incinerator, raking elements used for loosening and shifting the combustible material, e.g. refuse being burnt, are movably mounted on grate bars, which extend in the direction of inclination of the grate. In the embodiment shown, an inclined grate for an incinerator has rows of movable and fixed grate bars. Rotatably mounted on the fixed grate bars 6 are sector-shaped raking elements 7 spaced at intervals from each other in the longitudinal direction of the grate bars 6. Each sector element has a shaft 8 acted upon by a lever 9 which in turn is connected to an operating rod 10. One of the radial boundary surfaces of each sector-shaped element 7 forms a continuous plane with the material supporting surface of the fixed grate bar 6 and when the operating rod 10 is displaced by hand or by a motor the elements 7 are deflected upwardly so that they project above the material supporting surface as shown in broken lines 7<SP>1</SP>. The sector-shaped elements 7 may be pivoted in opposition to the inclination of the grate so that when operated they exert a pushing-back force on the material on the grate or they may be pivoted with the inclination of the grate to give an additional feeding movement. In a modification, the boundary surface of the element 7 forming a continuous plane with the grate bar 6 is provided with a flat portion 34 which may project over the edges of the grate bars as in Fig. 7 or may be recessed into the surface of grate bar. In another modification, Fig. 8, discshaped elements 43 are provided in recesses 42 of fixed fire grate bars 37 and operated by studs 40, this embodiment being particularly suitable for producing vibrating movements of the elements 43. The raking elements 7 may also be operated at such a speed as to produce a vibrating movement on the grate.
