Description

AN ARRANGEMENT FOR MOUNTING A DEVICE TO AVEHICLE BEAM TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an arrangement for mounting adevice to a beam in a vehicle comprising o two couples of fastening members, said couples being mu-tually displaced along said beam and each having a firstfastening member secured to the beam and a second fas-tening member secured to said device, o two locking members for each said couple of fasteningmembers configured to interlock the fastening members be-longing to the same couple and by that secure the device tothe beam, the two locking members belonging to a first of said couples offastening members being configured to in a locking state interlockthese two fastening members from opposite directions and com-prises each a cone-shaped male member being in said lockingstate fixed with respect to one of the fastening members and re-ceivable in a correspondingly designed cone-shaped female mem-ber of the other fastening member while bearing under tension thereagainst.
The invention is particularly but not exclusively directed to sucharrangements for vehicles in the form of heavy motor vehicles, such as a truck or a bus. Examples of devices to be mounted bysuch an arrangement are silencers, battery boxes and tanks of liq- uid or gas, such as urea.
Such locking members in the form of a cone-shaped male memberand a correspondingly designed cone-shaped female member forreceiving the male member are normally used for facilitating andspeeding up mounting and dismounting of such a device, espe-cially for being able to remove the device from the vehicle beamfrom an optional of two opposite directions by loosening only oneof the two locking members associated with a said couple of fas-tening members, such as interlocking two fastening members of acouple by moving one cone-shaped male member from abovedownwards and releasing the two fastening members from eachother by moving a cone-shaped male member below the fasteningmembers downwards and removing the device from the beamdownwards. However, it is pointed out that the invention is not re- stricted to arrangements allowing this procedure.
BACKGROUND ART An arrangement according to the introduction is already knownthrough SE 534 741 C2. One of the fastening members of the ar-rangement disclosed in that document is provided with lengthwaysnotches in which cone-shaped male members are received whileinterlocking this fastening member and another fastening memberbelonging to the same couple of fastening members. This is donefor eliminating tolerance and temperature movements between thetwo couples of fastening members. However, this will result in aline contact of the cone-shaped male member when tightening thisto bear under tension against the walls defining the notch in ques-tion. This means initially an infinite surface pressure resulting in aplasticising of the surfaces bearing against each other when tight- ening the cone-shaped male members to a specified torque, and the plasticising surface will extend until equilibrium occurs. Duringlater operation of the device and with additional loads thereon thecontact surfaces will plasticise additionally, and the result will bethat the tension of the male member on the female member (notch) will decrease.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The object of the present invention is to provide an arrangementof the type defined in the introduction being improved in at least some aspect with respect to such arrangements already known.
This object is obtained by providing such an arrangement with the features listed in the characterizing part of appended claim 1.
Thus, each locking member belonging to a first couple of fasteningmembers comprises a sleigh provided with said cone-shaped fe-male member and displaceably received in and along the exten-sion of a notch in said other fastening member of that couple in adirection towards and away from the other, second couple of fas-tening members, each sleigh has surfaces with an extension cor-responding to and resting on surfaces defining said notch, andeach cone-shaped male member is configured to press said sleighsurfaces of the associated sleigh against the surfaces defining thenotch in said locking state of that locking member. This means thatthe sleighs can move in the notches as much as needed for thepossible tolerances and changes of temperatures of especiallysaid beam and the device. Thus, there will be large contact sur-faces between the cone-shaped male members and the corre- spondingly designed cone-shaped female members of the sleighs and between the sleighs and the notches, so that no said plasti-cising will occur. Accordingly, the risk of a decreased tension is by that eliminated.
According to an embodiment of the invention said notch has ashape of a V or a truncated V. Such a shape of the notch is ad-vantageous for easily obtaining a bearing of a said sleigh havinga corresponding shape reliably over a large area against surfaces defining the notch for ensuring that no plasticising will occur.
According to another embodiment of the invention opposite wallsof said notch forming said shape thereof make an angle of 30°-150°, 60°-120° or 85°-95° with each other. These angles made bythe opposite walls of a said notch are suitable for obtaining an efficient bearing under tension of the sleigh thereagainst.
According to another embodiment of the invention said other fas-tening member of said first couple has for each said notch a stopmember configured to prevent said sleigh to leave the notch bymoving therein along the extension thereof. Such a stop memberwill hold on place the sleigh when mounting the device to the beamand still give the sleigh enough space for movement to eliminate tolerances and adapting to temperature changes.
According to another embodiment of the invention said other fas-tening member of said first couple has for each said notch a mem-ber configured to prevent said sleigh to be removed from saidnotch by movement thereof in a direction away from a bottom of said notch. This means that the sleigh will not risk to fall out of the notch, such as when the notch is directed downwards during a mounting or dismounting operation.
According to another embodiment of the invention the two lockingmembers belonging to said second of said couples of fasteningmembers are configured to, in a locking state, interlock these twofastening members from opposite directions and comprises acone-shaped male member being in said locking state fixed withrespect to one of the fastening members and receivable in a cor-respondingly designed cone-shaped female member of the otherfastening member while bearing under tension thereagainst. Suchan arrangement enables mounting and dismounting of a devicewith respect to a beam in a vehicle optionally from two oppositedirections, such as from above and from below, and according toa further development of this embodiment the cone-shaped malemember of each locking member is in said locking state of thelocking member moveable oppositely to said interlocking directionout of the respective cone-shaped female member to an extentreleasing the fastening members from each other and enabling re- moval of the device from said beam for obtaining this.
According to another embodiment of the invention each fasteningmember having a cone-shaped male member fixed thereto in saidlocking state is configured to receive a fastening member having a cone-shaped female member in said locking state.
According to another embodiment of the invention each fasteningmember having a cone-shaped female member is configured to be secured to a said device.
The invention also relates to a use of an arrangement accordingto the invention for mounting a silencer, a battery box or a tank ofliquid or gas, such as urea, to a beam of a vehicle as well as amotor vehicle, especially a vehicle such as a truck or a bus, com-prising an arrangement for mounting a device to a beam of thevehicle according to the invention. The advantages of such a useand motor vehicle appear clearly from the above discussion of thearrangement according to the present invention and embodiments thereof.
Further advantages as well as advantageous features of the in- vention will appear from the description following below.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS With reference to the appended drawings, below follows a specific description of an embodiment of the invention cited as an example. ln the drawings: Fig 1 shows a view obliquely from above of a silencermounted to one of two supporting and longitudinalbeams of a truck by means of an arrangement accord-ing to an embodiment of the invention, Fig 2 shows a similar view to that in fig 1 but with the silencer dismounted and removed from the beam, so that thetwo fastening members belonging to the same couple of fastening members have been separated, Fig 3 shows an enlarged perspective view of the first andsecond fastening member of the arrangement accord-ing to the invention provided with a sleigh with a cone-shaped female member, and Fig 4 is a exploded view without the first fastening member.
Fig 5 is a view of the sleigh with a stop member DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION An arrangement for mounting a device to a beam in a vehicle ac-cording to an embodiment of the invention will now be describedwhile making reference to all the figures 1-5. This arrangement ishere used for mounting a device in the form of a silencer 1 to abeam 2 of a vehicle 3 in the form of a truck. The device has twocouples 4, 5 of fastening members, and these couples are mutuallydisplaced along the beam 2 and have each a first fastening mem-ber 6, 7 secured to the beam and a second fastening member 8, 9secured to the silencer 1. The second fastening members 8, 9 areconfigured to be introduced into the first fastening members 6, 7in a locking state shown in fig 1 in which the silencer1 is fixedly secured to the beam 2.
The arrangement has two locking members for each couple 4, 5 offastening members configured to interlock the fastening membersbelonging to the same couple and by that secure the silencer tothe beam as in fig 1. The two locking members belonging to a first 4 of the couples of fastening members are configured to in said locking state interlock the two fastening members 6, 8 from oppo-site directions and comprises each for that sake a cone-shapedmale member 10, 11 with an outer thread for engagement with aninner thread of a respective through-hole 12 of the first fasteningmember. Each locking member belonging to this first couple 4 hasalso a sleigh 14 (see especially fig 3 and 5) provided with a cone-shaped female member 15 with a design corresponding to that of the cone-shaped male member 10 (see fig 5).
The sleigh 14 is displacably received in and along the extensionof a notch 16 in the fastening member 8 secured to the silencer1in a direction towards and away from the other, second couple 5of fastening members. The sleigh 14 has surfaces 17 with an ex-tension corresponding to and resting on surfaces 18 defining thenotch 16. Once the fastening member 8 is introduced into the fas-tening member 6 for securing the silencer 1 to the beam 2 eachcone-shaped male member 10, 11 is introduced into the cone-shaped female member 15 of the respective sleigh 14 and at leastone of these members 10, 11 is screwed towards the other of thesemembers so that these cone-shaped male members 10, 11 pressthe sleigh surfaces 17 of the associated sleigh 14 against the sur-faces 18 defining the notch for bearing under tension thereagainstand by that fixedly lock the fastening member 8 to the fastening member 6.
The two locking members belonging to said second 5 of the cou-ples of fastening members and these fastening members 7, 9 havethe same design as the locking members belonging to the firstcouple 4 and the fastening members 6, 8 of that couple except for the cone-shaped female member here formed by a fixed cone- shaped recess 19 in the respective end of the second fasteningmember 9 designed to receive a cone-shaped male member 20,21 securing the fastening members 7, 9 to each other by bearingunder tension against surfaces defining the recess 19 in the lock- ing state shown in fig 1.
A stop member 22 in fig 5 in the form of a screw is secured at thebottom 23 of the notch for preventing the respective sleigh 14 fromleaving the notch 16 by moving therein along the extension thereofand also to be removed from the notch by movement thereof in adirection away from a bottom 23 of the notch. This screw 22 willalso be protected by the sleigh. lt appears from fig 5 how thisscrew penetrates a longitudinal recess 26 in the bottom of thesleigh 14. The screw is firstly tightened to bear with the scull 27against the bottom 28 of the sleigh and then unscrewed about 180°for allowing the sleigh to be displaced along the arrow A in the notch as fas as determined by the dimension of the recess 26. lt is shown in fig 4 how the notch 16 in this embodiment of theinvention has a shape of a V with opposite walls 24, 25 of the notchforming this shape making an angle d of 90°, which has turned out to be suitable.
When mounting the silencer 1 to the beam 2 the fastening mem-bers 8, 9 will be introduced into the fastening members 6, 7 andthen the locking members be actuated by tightening the cone-shaped male members 10, 11 and 20, 21 to bear under tensionfrom opposite directions against the respective cone-shaped fe- male members. The sleighs 14 arranged on the fastening member 8 will then assume a position in the corresponding notch 16 com-pensating for tolerances. The torque applied through the cone-shaped male members 10 and 11 will be transferred to a forceacting on the cone-surfaces of the female member 15 and by thatby the sleigh surfaces 17 on the notch surfaces 18 avoiding thatany plasticising occurs. However, the sleighs 14 are allowed tomove along the extension of the respective notch 16 for adaption to temperature changes of the silencer with respect to the beam.
The locking members of the arrangement and the design of thefastening members 6, 7 with respect to the fastening members 8,9 may be so that it is possible to only operate the cone-shapedmale members from one side, such as from above, for securing thesilencer to the beam and only the other two cone-shaped malemembers, such as 11 and 21 from below for loosening the connec- tion and removing the silencer from the beam.
The invention is of course not in any way restricted to the embod-iment described above, but many possibilities to modificationsthereof would be apparent to a person with skill in the art withoutdeparting from the scope of invention as defined in the appended claims.
The opposite walls of the notches forming the V-shape thereof maymake other angles with each other than 90°, and angles between30° and 150° will in fact do, but angles from 60°to 120° are mostly more advantageous. lt is possible to secure the fastening members of the second cou- ple to each other by a fixed connection not enabling operation of 11 the locking members obtaining this from an optional side of thefastening members for mounting and dismounting the silencer with respect the beam.
