Abstract

A fluid for heating or cooling the tubes (1) is passed through a gas-permeable body (4) of thermally conductive material surrounding the tubes. A metal hydride reactor device comprises a number of parallel tubes arranged side by side, which contain a metal hydride. The tubes are closed at one end and connected to a gas distribution box (2) at the other end, so that hydrogen can be transported to and from the metal hydride. A gas-permeable body, comprising a thermally conductive material, surrounds the tubes and substantially fills the spaces in between. A fluid source directs a flow of fluid through the body in the tube length direction, to carry out heat transfer to and from the metal hydride via the tube walls.
