يتعلق الاختراع الحالي بطريقة إنتاج ميثان methane بواسطة التحويل البيولوجي لثاني أوكسيد الكربون carbon dioxide، المنفذ بواسطة التعايش symbiosis بين واحد أو أكثر من باكتيريا bacteria مولدة للميثان و: (1) واحد أو أكثر من البكتريا الزرقاء cyanobacteria و/أو الطحالب الدقيقة microalgae غير المتجانسة ذاتية التغذية hetero-autotrophic، أو (2) واحد أو أكثر من البكتريا الكبريتية sulfobacteria و/أو البكتريا الحمضية acetobacteria، حيث تنتج البكتريا الزرقاء و/أو الطحالب الدقيقة غير المتجانسة ذاتية التغذية المذكورة، أو البكتريا الكبريتية و/أو البكتريا الحمضية المذكورة، الهيدروجين الجزيئي molecular hydrogen المطلوب لتحويل ثاني أوكسيد الكربون إلى ميثان المنفذ بواسطة الباكتيريا المولدة للميثان المذكورة.
