Abstract

FIELD: analytical chemistry, organic compounds. SUBSTANCE: phenol is determined by potentiometric titration of extract. Acetylacetone is used as an extract taken at amount 5-20 wt.-% with respect to the analyzed sample, in the presence of sodium sulfate. Formaldehyde is determined in extract in the presence of ammonium acetate by spectrophotometry. Method can be used for phenol and formaldehyde assay in natural and treated sewage. EFFECT: separated assay, increased sensitivity of assay.

Claims (1)

The invention relates to the analytical chemistry of organic compounds and can be used to analyze natural and treated wastewater containing phenol and formaldehyde. The purpose of the invention is the separate determination of phenol and formaldehyde, lowering the lower limit of detection. The essence of the invention lies in the fact that phenol is determined by potentiometric titration of the extract, acetylacetone is used as an extractant, in an amount of 5 to 20 wt.% With respect to the sample, in the presence of sodium sulfate, and formaldehyde is determined spectrophotometrically in the extract in the presence of ammonium acetate.
