Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the field of veterinary radiobiology, in particular to a method for the treatment and prevention of radiation sickness of dogs.
Ionizing radiation is a stream of gamma rays and neutrons. The effect of ionizing radiation on the human and animal organism causes radiation sickness, characterized by profound functional and morphological changes in all its systems and organs.
(1).A known method for the treatment and prevention of radiation sickness in humans using intramuscular injection of a 0.5% solution of deoxinate in a volume of 15 ml and prodigiosan intramuscularly in the form of a 0.005% solution of 50-100 μg per person (1).
(2).Known anti-inflammatory and bactericidal agent that strengthens the immune system - collargol. Collargol is used externally in the form of solutions (1-2%) or ointments for the treatment of infected wounds, orally and intravenously for septicemia and pyemia (2).
(Прототип)There is also a method for the treatment and prevention of acute radiation sickness in white rats and rabbits using a 0.5% solution of collargol administered subcutaneously at a dose of 3 mg / kg body weight (3). (Prototype)
The objective of our research was to develop an effective method for the treatment and prevention of radiation sickness in service dogs.
This was achieved due to the fact that collargol with fortifying agents was used to treat and prevent acute radiation sickness in dogs.
The proposed method for the treatment of acute radiation sickness of dogs consists in the following: 2, 15, 24 and 48 hours after irradiation (LD 90-95 / 45 ), dogs are administered collargol in a 0.5% official solution of novocaine - after 2 hours intrapulmonary (after intercostal space - 4-5 intercostal spaces from the last rib along the shoulder-shoulder joint) in the form of a 1% solution at a dose of 1-3 mg / kg, after 15, 24 and 48 hours - subcutaneously in the form of a 0.5% solution in dose of 3-5 mg / kg body weight.
1.In addition to collargol, vitamins, antibiotics and nutritional supplements are administered to irradiated dogs. The timing of the introduction of these drugs and their doses are given in table 1.
При данном сочетании отмечается 100%-ное выживание собак в опытной группе (из 5 собак выжило 5) при гибели всех собак контрольной группы (из 2 собак пало 2).Specific examples of the therapeutic efficacy of the proposed method are given in table.2. As can be seen from the table, the effectiveness of the method substantially depends on both the dose and the method of application of collargol. The optimal combination is the dose of collargol 2 and 3 mg / kg body weight, respectively, with intrapulmonary and subcutaneous administration. With this combination, 100% survival of dogs in the experimental group was noted (out of 5 dogs, 5 survived) with the death of all dogs in the control group (2 out of 2 dogs).
The proposed method for the prevention of acute radiation sickness of dogs is as follows: 1, 3 and 5 days before exposure to dogs (at a dose of LD 90-95 / 45 ) intramuscularly (through the intercostal space - 4-5 intercostal spaces from the last rib along the shoulder-joint) into the diaphragmatic lobe using a syringe with a needle, a 1% solution of collargol in a 0.5% official solution of novocaine at a dose of 3-5 mg / kg.
Кроме колларгола облученным собакам вводят витамины, антибиотики и пищевые добавки аналогично способу лечения (табл.1).In addition to collargol, vitamins, antibiotics and nutritional supplements are administered to irradiated dogs similarly to the treatment method (Table 1).
Specific examples of the prophylactic effectiveness of the proposed method are given in table.3. As can be seen from the table, prophylactic efficacy depended on the time of administration of collargol prior to dog irradiation and its dose. So, with the introduction of collargol at a dose of 3-5 mg / kg body weight 1 day before irradiation, 100% survived, while with the same dose for 3, 5 days, 67 and 40% of the dogs, respectively, with 70-100% their death in control.
A decrease in the dose of collargol 1.5 times reduced the effectiveness of its protective effect. So, with the introduction of collargol at a dose of 2 and 3 mg / kg body weight a day before irradiation, 67% (or 2 of 3) and 100% (3 of 3) dogs of the experimental groups survived with 67-100% death in the control, respectively.
Used domestic preparations are well tolerated by dogs. The processing of one dog is in the range of 200-300 rubles.
The proposed methods were tested with positive results in commission tests in conjunction with the specialists of 470 Methodological and Cynological Center for Service Dog Breeding of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2007.
The proposed methods of treatment and prevention will find wide application in official dog breeding during a special period (military conflict with the use of nuclear weapons or the use of radioactive substances for sabotage purposes).
This will help to keep the number of service dogs, especially of such valuable as mine search dogs. Preserving mine-search dogs in the context of nuclear terrorism will save hundreds of lives of personnel involved in the aftermath of terrorist acts using radioactive substances.
