Abstract
Description
The invention relates to analytical chemistry, namely to the manufacture of indicator papers and the semi-quantitative determination of copper concentration with their help in natural, waste waters and various liquids in the field.
Known indicator strips for the determination of copper [1], which are paper impregnated with a reagent that gives a colored complex with copper. The concentration is determined by the intensity of the resulting color when lowering the indicator strips into the test solution.
The disadvantage of these indicator papers is their low sensitivity (1 - 2 mg / l), which does not allow to determine copper at the level of maximum permissible concentrations for water bodies. To increase the sensitivity in these methods, special devices are used that allow 3 to 30 ml of the test liquid to be passed through indicator paper, which is not always convenient in non-laboratory conditions.
[2]. The closest in technical essence and the achieved result is a method of manufacturing indicator papers and determining the concentration of copper with their help, which consists in impregnating the paper with a solution of 1, 2-diaminoantraquinone-3-sulfonic acid and drying. The paper is wetted with the analyzed solution, then a drop of 1 M sodium hydroxide solution is extracted. A blue stain appears on red-violet paper depending on the copper content. The detection limit of 0.4 mg / l of copper [2].
The disadvantage of this paper is its low detection sensitivity (0.4 mg / L).
The purpose of the invention is to increase the sensitivity of determination of copper by the test method.
This is achieved by successively soaking the filter paper, drying and determining the concentration of copper along the length of the colored zone obtained by passing the test liquid through a strip of indicator paper sealed in a polymer film. The first solution for impregnating filter paper is an aqueous solution of iron chloride. After drying the paper, a second solution is applied - sodium diethyldithiocarbaminate and the paper is dried again. At the same time, a water-insoluble compound, iron diethyldithiocarbaminate, is formed and fixed on paper.
In the presence of copper, iron is displaced from its diethyldithiocarbaminate and a less soluble brown copper diethyldithiocarbaminate is formed. The copper selectivity of such indicator paper is enhanced by the fact that other metals (for example, lead, cobalt, zinc, cadmium, barium, manganese, nickel) form less stable compounds with diethyldithiocarbaminate than copper.
The sensitivity of the determination of copper is increased due to the use of the above impregnating solutions and due to the fact that the test solution does not fit on the test paper, but rises along a strip of test paper glued into a polymer film, one of the ends of which is lowered into the test solution. The concentration of copper is determined not by the intensity of the resulting color, but by the length of the colored zone of the test strip.
The method is as follows.
The filter paper is soaked in a 0.005-0.010 M aqueous solution of iron chloride and dried. Then the paper is soaked in a 0.05 - 0.1 M aqueous solution of sodium diethyl dithiocarbaminate, washed with distilled water and dried in a stream of thermal air. Test strips of size (70 - 80) x (2 - 3) MM are cut out of the resulting paper and sealed in adhesive tape or hot-melt adhesive film.
When determining copper in solution, cut about 1 MM from both ends of the test strips and lower one of them into the test liquid. After raising the liquid to the second end of the test strip, the length of the colored zone is measured with a millimeter ruler. The copper concentration is determined on a standard scale prepared on the basis of data obtained on standard copper solutions. The detection limit of copper is 0.05 mg / L. The range of detectable concentrations is from 0.05 mg / L (length of the stained area is 0.5 MM) to 500 mg / L (length of the stained area is 74 MM).
Shelf life of indicator test strips in a dark place for at least three years.
Distinctive features of the method for determining the concentration of copper consist in the above composition and sequential impregnation of filter paper with reagents that form a precipitate fixed on paper, more soluble than with the element being determined, and in determining the copper concentration along the length of the colored zone of the test strip when the test fluid passes through it.
1 и 2). The optimal concentration of reagents for paper impregnation and the optimal size of the test strips were selected according to the maximum length of the painted zone of the test strips (Tables 1 and 2).
0,05-0,1 M. As follows from the table. 1 optimal concentration for iron chloride is 0.005-0.01 M and for sodium diethyldithiocarbaminate 0.05-0.1 M.
2-3 MM. As follows from the table. 2 optimal is the length of the test strip 70-80 MM, width 2-3 MM.
3. An example of the determination of copper in natural and waste waters. Adjust the pH of the analyzed solution to 1-2 by adding hydrochloric acid and lower the test strip. After raising the liquid to the end of the test strip, measure the length of the stained area. The standard scale determines the copper content. The results are presented in table. 3.
