The invention relates to the field of crystalline materials used in the jewelry industry.
The use of artificially obtained crystals in the jewelry industry is very economically profitable, since the reserves of natural crystals are limited on the one hand and, on the other hand, their extraction is a very expensive production. Melt-synthesized artificial crystals are known that imitate the color of natural alexandrite, but in reality they are synthetic corundums dyed with vanadium [1]. These crystals have a violet color, which changes to redder under artificial lighting, but the color change is much smaller than that of natural alexandrite. Also known is a crystal synthesized from a melt and imitating chrysoberyl, which has a medium or thick green color. The disadvantages of this crystal include fairly weak dichroism, as well as the need to use beryllium salts to synthesize. In composition, the crystal is actually beryllium-aluminum oxide with the formula BeAl 2 O 4 [2]
In the invention, these disadvantages are eliminated by the fact that a single-crystal jewelry material containing zirconium or hafnium dioxide, stabilizing a metal oxide from a number of calcium, magnesium, yttrium and doping-coloring oxides of rare earth elements, to simulate natural alexandrite as coloring additives, the crystal contains praseodymium and neodymium oxides in relation to the first to the second from 0.5 to 2.5 with a total content of these oxides from 5 to 11 wt.
Examples of the chemical composition of single-crystal jewelry material allow you to have a different degree of color and dichroism, wt. calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, or yttrium 16-30 (16-30, 16-30, 16-30); praseodymium oxide 3 (5, 3, 5); neodymium oxide 2 (6, 6, 2); zirconium oxide and hafnium rest.
Accordingly, intermediate concentrations of praseodymium and neodymium oxides are also possible.
The main advantage of this crystal is that by varying the percentage of praseodymium and neodymium oxides, the color and degree of dichroism can be widely changed.
