Abstract

PURPOSE: A novel fluorescent substance, consisting of sodium lanthanum thiogallate activated with cerium, having a short afterglow time, and particularly suitable for application to index color picture tubes.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorescent substance consisting of sodium lanthanum thiogallate activated with cerium and expressed by the formula Na0.5La0.5Ga2S4:Ce having the following characteristics: λmax:485nm; emission efficiency: 7%; afterglow time λ1/e: 40nsec. The fluorescent substance expressed by the formula Na0.5La0.5Ga2S4: Ce is prepared by mixing 0.5mol NaCl with 0.2375mol La2S3, 0.0125mol Ce2S3 and 1mol Ga2S3, and calcining the resultant mixture in a quartz boat in H2S gas at 900°C for 4hr.
