Abstract
Pipe sleeve coupling is made from a tubular sleeve having a longitudinally slotted mouth and a cap having slotted internal skirt to enclose the mouth of the socket. The rim of the socket is thickened with an external taper. The rim of the cap skirt has a thick, serrated internal lip. The bore of the cap is sized to deflect the socket lip inwards. Subsequent insertion of a pipe end or spigot into the cap spreads the serrated lip, dilating the skirt lip to positively trap the socket lip. The joint is sealed by an annular 'V' section elastic seal. Coupling is suitable for joining plastics pipe for pressurised to >=10kg/cm2. The joint requires low assembly forces, i.e. can be assembled by hand, but high disengagement forces unless the pipe is depressurised.
