The rotary valve consists of a cylinder with an inlet pipe (201) with a connection into the cylinder (43). The pipe is flanged onto the casing. The bore is fitted with the rotating valve (36) which is bored diametrically and fitted with four slots along the edge. The slots contain sliding strips which seal the valve against leakage. The valves are sealed at the ends by sealing strips and driven from the main crank by means of a toothed belt. On multi cylinder engines the valves are formed end to end on the same spindle.
