Abstract
The rotary piston engine with an eccentric cylindrical piston, and radially sliding sealing blades has these blades (45) L-shaped and extending in part through the piston (42). Their inner ends are rounded and are throughout the cycle in contact with a spigot (24B) projecting from the casing. The outer portion of the blades, representing the other leg of the 'L', ends in a cylindrical-section axial recess in which a sealing bar (50) can pivot. This bar carries 3 sealing strips far enough apart to bridge any of the openings - gas inlet (38), outlet (39) and spark plug (18, 19) - in the cylinder outer wall. A spring-loaded floating length (47) in the radial leg of the blades provides sealing press. and compensates for expansion/contraction. The usual end seals are incorporated and a conventional timing gear has a ratio of 1.5 : 1, giving 120 deg. piston rotation per crankshaft revolution.
