Abstract

1482368 Mixing apparatus; froth flotation apparatus ENGLISH CLAYS LOVERING POCHIN & CO Ltd 2 Feb 1976 [14 Feb 1975] 6485/75 Headings B1C and B2H A froth flotation apparatus for the treatment of mixed particles less than 150 microns in diameter has a rotatable impeller plate 1a with radial blades 1b, 1d on its upper and lower surfaces respectively, and a stationary cover plate 7 of greater diameter than the plate 1a having downwardly projecting fins 7b, inclined to the radius, in the annular region which extends beyond the impeller. There may be shorter blades (1c, Figs. 3 and 4 not shown) between the blades 1b. The plate 7 is surmounted by a conical hood 78 and cowling 9 all supported by baffles 8. In operation the impeller is rotated so that the outer ends of the fins 7b are leading in relation to the direction of rotation; air is induced down the cowling 9 and slurry is supplied to the interior of the hood 78 through a pipe 10, is recirculated through apertures (not depicted) in the hood 78 and apertures 19 in the cowling 9, and is discharged through aperture 11 and over the adjustable weir 12. Froth 15 is removed by a rotating paddle 17. Preferred dimensions and proportions of the apparatus are recited.
