Abstract

387,100. Concentrating ores ; stirrers. DAMAN, A. C., 1419, 17th Street, Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. Jan. 1, 1932, No. 64. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1931. [Classes 82 (ii) and 86.] Flotation apparatus comprises a bladed conical agitator rotating on a vertical axis below a stationary hood through which pulp is supplied. The agitator consists of a coned body 26, connected to a rotating shaft 29, the body 26 having radial blades 27 on its under side and radial blades 30, which preferably decrease in depth towards the periphery of the agitator, on its upper surface. A ring 28 forms an annular space adjacent the hub of the agitator to assist the' distribution. of the pulp, and the blades 30 are preferably alternately connected to and spaced from the ring. The blades 30 are formed with holes 32 or they may be notched on their upper surface, Fig. 7. The agitator rotates below a stationary hood formed in two sections 8, 11 joined along a diameter and having recirculation holes 12. One section 8 is formed integral with three radial baffles 5, 6, 7, the ends of which rest on a bowl 3 in the flotation cell 2. The other section 11 is integral with a radial baffle 4 which extends into the fourth corner of the cell, the section having flanges 22 which are bolted to the baffles 5, 7. The sections are formed with downwardly flaring hub members 13 to which a feed supply pipe 19 is connected and which contain lateral openings which may either be connected to supply pipes 17 for return of middlings &c. to the cell or may be closed by plates 16, or in a modified form may be connected with an air supply. The main air supply is through a standpipe 38 resting in a groove 39 on the hub members 13. A renewable wear plate may be bolted to the underside of the hood. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the underside of the hood instead of being horizontal is parallel to the coned body of the agitator and is provided with tapered holes 36. To remove the agitator, the hood section 11 only need be removed, the agitator being then moved laterally and lifted out of the cell. Specification 349,108 is referred to.
