Abstract

919,467. Agitation, aeration and circulation of liquids. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. Oct. 19, 1961 [Nov. 4, 1960], No. 37922/60. Class 86. An agitator for the surface aeration of liquids, especially bacterial effluents, comprises a spindle 10 to which is attached an inverted hollow cone 12 and a boss 11. Blades 13 are fixed to the underside of the cone and tangentially to the boss, and have a part 15 extending beyond the periphery of the cone. Deflectors 16 lying in the plane of the periphery of the cone and normal to the spindle 10 project to one side of the blade extensions 15. In operation, the agitator is immersed so that the deflectors 16 lie on or just above the surface of the liquid, and is rotated in their direction of projection. A toroidal circulation is set up in the liquid, which is progressively circulated through the air in a flat trajectory in the zone of surface turbulence. The preferred speed of rotation is 50-100 r.p.m. Specification 847,640 is referred to.
