La presente invencion esta referida a una planta de stevia con alto contenido de endulzante que tiene una variacion en una porcion correspondiente a SEQ ID NO: 1. Tambien se refiere a un metodo de seleccion de una planta de stevia con alto contenido de endulzante, caracterizado porque comprende un paso de detectar una variacion en una porcion correspondiente a la SEQ ID N°: 1 del genoma de una planta de stevia en estudio.
