Abstract

The invention relates to a food supplement for animals, consisting exclusively of aqueous extract of water hyacinth or Eichhornia crassipes, essentially containing minerals, intended to provide sanitary comfort to animals such as cattle, sheep, goats and poultry by protecting them from several diseases. The invention is obtained after harvesting, cleaning, draining, chopping, and extraction for 30 to 60 days between 28 and 35° C. of the leaves of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and filtration of the aqueous extract obtained. The food supplement according to the invention can be stored for a minimum period of three years. It is administered according to the following dilutions depending on the zoological group: 10, 20 or 30 mL of aqueous extract, for 10 L of water, respectively for poultry, sheep and goats and cattle.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Natural food supplement for animals and process for its manufacture

The invention relates to a food supplement for animals, consisting of a liquid extract from the leaves of the water hyacinth or camalote (Eichhornia crassipes).

The invention also relates to the process for the manufacture of this food supplement for animals.

The food supplement according to the invention is intended for the sanitary comfort of animals such as cattle, sheep, goats and poultry by preventing and reducing disease risk factors.

Dietary supplements are concentrated sources of nutrients. That is to say vitamins and mineral salts, substances for nutritional or psychological purposes, or plants which are intended to compensate for the deficiencies of the regular diet. Supplements can come in different forms: capsules, lozenges, tablets, pills, sachets of powder, ampoules of liquids, bottles with a dropper.

Although dietary supplements are very recent, their entry into the market is strongly linked to health disorders that have plagued the past centuries, such as scurvy caused by vitamin C deficiency, rickets, bone deformities, etc. Indeed, food supplements were first developed with the aim of preventing various health problems. Today, the use of these supplements extends to the search for well-being, beauty, shape, tone and delaying aging.

Dietary supplements are not the only prerogative of humans, they are also administered to animals. Indeed, animals have vitamin and mineral needs which vary according to the stage of life and the zoological group. Normally, these elements are brought to them by a suitable diet. But it may happen that the animal needs nutrient supplementation, for example during gestation or lactation, during moulting for birds or during the competition season for horses, or even during the convalescence period. or after farrowing, or during growth. These supplements consist of cocktails of vitamins, amino acids, trace elements and come in the form of drops, tablets or even powder. There are even highly specialized products, such as electrolyte solutions intended for animals with particularly intense physical activity: racing pigeons, competition horses. The presentation of the product and its method of administration depend on the species concerned, its breed and the physiological need to be met.

Food supplements for animals are now an integral part of the 5 panoply of animal care: they can be administered to all types of animals: horses and other large animals, cattle, sheep and pigs, rodents, poultry, so-called ornamental birds and carrier pigeons, hens, ducks or even geese. They are intended for various purposes: to stimulate singing or reproduction, to support the metabolism, to increase the resistance or to facilitate recovery after a farrowing, to restore 10 to their coat shine and softness, to prevent health problems and deficiencies, to support the metabolism. However, according to their sources, dietary supplements can produce side effects and cause pets more problems than they solve.

The international application PCT/IB2016/057730, filed on December 16, 2016 by BASAGONDA BHAGAVANTA, Hanamapur, bearing the title "Feed compositions intended for the control of infections and metabolic disorders in livestock and associated method", describes feed compositions intended for combating infections and metabolic disorders in livestock and a method of treating an animal”. It also describes a dietary supplement mineral source/non-protein nitrogen source, salt (NaCl) and energy source such as the SELF CURE strategy envisioned to control infections and metabolic disorders in livestock associated with immunosuppressant related to negative energy balance, especially domesticated ruminants and non-domesticated animals. It comprises: from 40 to 70% by weight of mineral salts, from 10 to 50% by weight of non-protein nitrogen source and from 10 to 30% by weight of salt (NaCl) and in addition a hydrophobic component, a binder and charges. This invention also relates to a method for the prevention and/or treatment of inflammatory diseases of the uterus, kidneys and mastitis and should be administered two or three times a day to the animal depending on the type.

And the international application PCT/AU2013/000607, filed on June 07, 2013 by the company A. A. COMPANY PTY LTD, entitled "Solid food supplements for animals and their manufacturing processes", concerns blocks of solid food supplements for animals with a value high nutritional value, as well as their manufacturing processes. Said solid animal food blocks contain molasses solubles

[3] condensates (CMS), a source of phosphorus and a source of liquid. Said solid animal feed blocks can be used to feed range animals.

All these food supplements are complex, that is to say made up of nutrients from different sources and administered to the animal at very specific times.

The present invention aims to provide another type of food supplement made from a single source, well known and naturally containing the essential nutrients for the animal at any stage of its life.

In accordance with the invention, this object is achieved with the natural food supplement for animals, which consists exclusively of aqueous extract, coming from the leaves of the water hyacinth or camalote scientifically called Eichhornia crassipes and rich in mineral elements.

The food supplement according to the invention is intended to provide sanitary comfort to animals such as cattle, sheep, goats and poultry. It acts by maintaining a good state of health, and by reducing the risk factors of diseases; it protects the animal from infectious diseases, parasitism, edema and grass tetany. It ensures a good development of the young animal and strengthens the skeleton of the adult animal, it also makes it possible to avoid reproductive disorders in the animal and embryonic mortalities. It contains the following minerals: calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), sodium (Na), potassium (K), chlorine (Cl), sulfur (S), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg) , copper (Cu), molybdenum (Mo), manganese (Mn), iodine (I), cobalt (Co), fluorine (F) and selenium (Se).

The food supplement for animals according to the invention is obtained according to a process which is carried out in five essential steps. In one embodiment, these steps are as follows:

- Harvesting and cleaning: healthy, moist leaves of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) are carefully torn off and freed of all foreign bodies;

- Draining: the hyacinth leaves, clean, healthy and moist, are spread in a thin layer in order to rid them of the water adsorbed by them.

- chopping: the healthy and drained leaves of water hyacinth are finely divided to give particles measuring approximately 1 mm in length;

- Extraction: the finely chopped leaves of water hyacinth are soaked in clean water at the rate of 1 kg of chopped leaves for 10 liters of water for a period ranging from 30 to 60 days, at a temperature varying between 28 and 35°C, the mixture being constantly stirred;

-Filtration: the fermented aqueous extract obtained containing impurities and other particles is passed through a filter to be clarified. The filtrate obtained constitutes a food supplement for animals, which is finally packaged in bottles.

The food supplement in accordance with the invention has the advantages of being natural, preventive, ecological because it helps to fight against the invasion of water hyacinth, easy to produce and at a lower cost.

The other characteristics of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the detailed description based on Figure 1 of the single board, and which represents a non-limiting example of embodiment.

The invention is a natural food supplement for animals, which consists exclusively of an aqueous extract from the leaves of the water hyacinth or camalote scientifically called Eichhornia crassipes. In one embodiment, the food supplement for animals according to the invention is obtained according to a process which is carried out in five essential steps which are:

- Harvesting and cleaning: after uprooting the whole plant, the leaves or aerial parts of the water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) are collected, taking care to select only those that are healthy and fresh, which are then cleared of all foreign bodies (mud, parasites and other dirt). In a preferred embodiment, this operation takes place manually using stainless steel knives and water. ;

- Draining: the healthy, clean and moist leaves of selected hyacinth are spread in a thin layer on a large perforated surface. In a preferred embodiment, a large large-mesh sieve or a large stainless steel basin regularly lined with holes is used. The purpose of this operation is to rid the hyacinth leaves of the water they adsorb;

- chopping: using a chopping machine, the healthy leaves of water hyacinth already drained are divided finely. Or again, the leaves held in clusters are sheared in

[5] small pieces. Plant particles are then obtained measuring approximately 1 mm in length on average;

- Extraction: the finely chopped leaves of water hyacinth are soaked in a basin of clean water. The plant-water ratio is 1/10; i.e. 1kg of chopped leaves for 10 liters of water. The mixture is maintained for 30 to 60 days, at a temperature varying between 28 and 35°C. During this operation, the water serving as an extraction solvent, washes the plants and dissolves its water-soluble mineral and vitamin constituents which constitute the phytonutrients of the invention;

-Filtration: the fermented aqueous extract, loaded with suspended particles and other impurities, is clarified by filtration. In a preferred embodiment, a stainless steel screen is used, fine mesh of about 600 µm in diameter. At the end of this operation, a clear and limpid liquid is obtained which constitutes the food supplement according to the invention, which is finally packaged in tightly closed bottles.

The food supplement according to the invention can be stored for a minimum of three years. This drinkable aqueous extract for animals is used after dilution with water, the factor of which depends on the zoological group of the animal. This dilution is 10 mL of aqueous extract/10 L of water for poultry, 20 mL/10 for sheep and goats and finally or 30 mL/10 of extract for cattle.

At these doses, the food supplement protects the animal from infectious diseases, parasitism, grass edema and tetany, reproductive disorders and embryonic mortality. It ensures good development of the young animal and strengthens the skeleton of the adult animal.

The invention owes these properties to its composition of mineral elements, namely: calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), sodium (Na), potassium (K), chlorine (CI), sulfur (S), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), molybdenum (Mo), manganese (Mn), iodine (I), cobalt (Co), fluorine (F) and selenium (Se).

Claims (4)
